How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments varies with each client. Treatment sessions can range from 15 minutes to several hours depending on the area being treated. Factors such as hair growth cycles, the quantity and structure of hair, previous hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function and certain medications can influence the treatment program for each individual. A custom treatment plan will be created for you based on these factors during your consultation.

Why does electrolysis take so long?

Electrolysis permanently destroys individual hair follicles, but each follicle must be treated one at a time. Hair grows in natural cycles, and not all hairs are actively growing or visible at the same time. As a result, only a portion of your hair can be treated during any given appointment.

Additionally, hormones and genetics can influence when new hairs become active, meaning hairs that weren't visible during one visit may appear weeks or months later. Regular treatments allow us to treat these new hairs as they emerge, gradually reducing the amount of hair over time.

While electrolysis requires patience, it is the only FDA-recognized method of permanent hair removal. Staying consistent with your treatment plan is the most effective way to achieve lasting results as efficiently as possible.

Why is consistency so important?

Consistency is one of the biggest factors in achieving permanent results as efficiently as possible. Hair follicles become treatable at different times, so regular appointments allow us to permanently treat new hairs as they enter their active growth phase.

Waiting too long between appointments gives untreated hairs time to mature and allows additional hairs to emerge, making the area appear fuller again. By staying on schedule, we can maintain a progressively clearer area, reduce the amount of hair present over time, and often shorten the overall treatment timeline.

Why can't I pluck or wax?

Electrolysis targets the hair follicle. Plucking, waxing, threading, and epilating remove the hair we need to treat, making it impossible to accurately insert the probe into the follicle. Shaving is perfectly fine because it leaves the follicle intact.

Why does it seem like I have more hair now than before?

Many clients feel like they have more hair after starting electrolysis, but the treatment is not creating new hair. If you've been plucking, waxing, or threading, many hairs were temporarily removed before they had a chance to become visible. Once those methods are stopped, hairs that were already part of your natural growth cycle begin to appear so they can be permanently treated.

It's also common to notice hairs more than you did before because you're paying closer attention to the treatment area. As treatments continue, the number of active hairs will gradually decrease, and the area will become progressively clearer.

Why are multiple treatments necessary?

Electrolysis permanently destroys the hair follicles that are treated, but not all hair follicles are active at the same time. Each follicle follows its own natural growth cycle, so some hairs are visible while others remain dormant beneath the skin.

Because only active follicles can be treated, additional appointments are needed to permanently remove new hairs as they become visible. With each treatment, more follicles are permanently eliminated, resulting in less hair and longer-lasting periods of clear skin.

How do hormones influence electrolysis?

Hormones can stimulate dormant hair follicles to produce new hair, especially in conditions like PCOS or during menopause. Electrolysis permanently destroys the follicles that are treated, but it cannot prevent hormones from activating follicles that were previously inactive.

This means that while treated hairs are permanently removed, new hormonally stimulated hairs may appear over time. Staying consistent with your treatment plan allows us to clear existing hair and treat new growth as it appears. Once the area is under control, many clients transition to occasional maintenance appointments if ongoing hormonal changes continue to stimulate new follicles.
